In countless regions, vineyards line steep slopes, contributing to a unique landscape. Whether consisting of horizontal terraced systems or rows planted along the fall line, the targeted development and cultivation of these steep slopes are what make productive, high-quality viticulture possible.
For a long time, cultivating vines in these steep terraces and narrow rows was a laborious, manual task. To support winemakers, Willy Mulser developed the Vitrac tool carrier in collaboration with South Tyrolean vintners.
The Vitrac tool carrier offers impressive stability even on challenging terrain. This is achieved through a long wheelbase and a low
center of gravity, which ensure safe and smooth handling. This is further supported by various tire options, including the option of dual wheels, which provides additional traction and stability. The driver’s low seating position contributes to a stable driving feel and good vehicle control, while the overall design provides excellent all-around visibility.
The concept is complemented by various safety features such as an intelligent oscillating joint lock, engine protection, a roll bar, and two emergency exits, which further increase occupational safety.
Vineyards with down-the-slope rows require high-traction machinery, as the vehicles operate directly along the fall line of the slope. Therefore, a finely dosable all-wheel drive, good brakes, and sufficient power for uphill climbs are essential.
At the same time, the machines must be lightweight and soil-friendly to perform work efficiently. The establishment of turning areas significantly increases driving safety. On steep terrain, these areas are often reinforced with concrete, stone, or geo-walls.

For a total width of 91 cm (36 in) the following values apply:
Inner radius: approx. 40 cm (16 in)
Outer radius: approx. 138 cm (54 in)
Thanks to the double articulated joint, Vitrac can achieve a steering angle of approximately 82° without losing stability.
With an overall length of 2.72 m (8 ft 11 in) or 2.46 m (8 ft 1 in), depending on the operating direction, a width of 82 cm (32 in), and precise steering, Vitrac offers decisive advantages: It can enter the next row directly at a row spacing of only 1.30 m (4 ft 3 in) without the need for multiple turning maneuvers.
